SAN BENITO COUNTY RESEARCH CENTER INFORMATION

Our archival holdings

The Society maintains a large collection of archival materials and they are available for use by researchers who visit the Research Center. These materials include, but are not limited to:

Either requests can be made via email info@sbchistoricalsociety.org, or regular mail.  Please describe as specifically as possible what you would like us to research. Please include all pertinent information including names, dates, relationships, and sources already searched.

  •  You MUST make an appointment by emailing the staff  at info@sbchistoricalsociety.org  to schedule an appointment on the second Monday of the month. 


  • Staff will try to accommodate research on days when the Research Center is not open to the public, but this special time is not guaranteed and will require an additional $15 fee

  •  If you cannot visit us in person, research is available by volunteers at $10 per hour for members and $15 per hour for non-members. Our backlog on research requests could be two to three months.

  •  We perform research only in our own holdings. If your research needs to extend beyond our holdings, please ask us how to obtain other information. We are located just down the street from the County of San Benito Clerk, Auditor and Recorder offices on Fifth Street and a visit can easily be combined with a visit to the Research Center.

Research requests can be made by sending a request with the information outlined in  Research Request Options, above by email to info@sbchistoricalsociety.org

A research center volunteer will contact you to discuss the nature of your project, any fees for the project and the expected time line for completion.  Once an agreement has been reached,  you can make a payment using the PAYMENT button.  

Pay by Credit Card or Debit Card

After you and the research volunteer have agreed on the project fees, you can make a payment here.

GUIDELINES FOR YOUR VISIT TO THE RESEARCH CENTER:

  1. Please send an email to schedule an appointment.
  2. Please sign in upon arrival.
  3. Please do not help yourself to materials.
  4. Please do not re-shelve any materials.
  5. No food or drinks are allowed in the Research Center.
  6. Please use only a pencil or laptop computer to make notes.
  7. Permission for digital photos required in advance.
